Ways to cut screen time without a fight.

Trying to imagine a world where technology does not exist is practically impossible. The digital age has made gadgets an indispensable component of our lives. The case is no different for children, with statistics suggesting that children aged 8 to 10 spend an average of six hours a day in front of a screen.

While there is no denying the advantages of technology, excessive amounts of screen time could negatively affect a child's growth and development. The critical period is a specific time frame that starts from early infancy, which plays a pivotal role in molding the functional properties of the brain through environmental influences and experiences. Unfortunately, you can’t explain to a child why they should reduce their screen time, because let’s face it, they don’t care about how it’s going to affect the functional properties of their brain.

Instead, you can try these five ideas to help limit gadget usage, while promoting a fun-filled learning environment.

One : It’s called the great outdoors for a reason. From splashing in puddles to making mud pies, there are endless activities you can keep your child engaged with outdoors.

Two : Van Gogh just went with his flow. Let your child experiment and make mistakes to bring out their inner artiste or musician. It is not necessary to be an artist, but rather think like artists.
Three : Bookworms don’t squirm. Helping your child to fall in love with books will set them up for life, because boredom isn’t part of a reader’s vocabulary.

Four : Playdates with their best mates. Playdates can be the start of fantastic friendships that often last a lifetime. What’s more, they’re a great way for kids to learn social skills.

Five : It’s never too early to learn how to cook. Encourage your kid to join you while you cook or garden, to introduce them to skills that could become a passion.
Striking a harmonious balance between screen time and other developmental activities is important throughout a child's formative stages. By limiting device usage and offering children opportunities for experiential learning, we can ensure that they develop into well-rounded individuals who are equipped to tackle the challenges of the future.
